David Crews has been working as a television production director, editor, and digital artist for 35 years, starting in broadcast stations in West Texas, then moving to production houses and cable television production studios in Austin, Texas.

He has worked in many roles, from Production Manager to Senior Producer/Director.
Besides winning many video awards, including several Telly's, a Gold Addy, and more during his diverse career, he has:
• directed live newscasts,
• designed sets and lighting for thousands of studio shows and commercials,
• helped design two different television studios from the ground up,
• created a new broadcast television station production department,
• edited national campaign spots for distribution across the U.S. and Canada,
• premiered a long-running national arts program, "The Independents" on

• directed and ran camera at the LBJ Presidential Library for over a decade,

• is now an on-air announcer for one of the nation's few purely classical music

I LOVE Video Production!!

I have been involved in Television Production since January of 1973, when I began my career at KOSA-TV in Odessa, Texas.
When I began, videotape was still in the dinosaur age - hulking huge reel-to-reel machines that ran 2-inch wide tape. Commercials with products were done LIVE in our studios during newscasts! Weather graphics were created with plastic letters on a grooved menu board!
How incredible the changes in technology have been!

In 1983, after a short time working for production houses in the DFW and Austin areas, I moved to Austin and began working for what became Time Warner Cable - first as Production Manager, then as the Senior Producer-Director (my preferred role). I stayed there for 24 years, but now I have decided to open my own post-production and music studio, CrewsCreative. This gives me the freedom to work on projects I find challenging and rewarding and offers the opportunity to work with my clients in a professional, but comfortable and stylish environment that promotes creativity.

I'd love to work with you on many different types of projects, from feature film editing/fx/music, to other long-form programs, to industrial or corporate videos, and, of course, the short-form work I have excelled at for more than a quarter century. I have always enjoyed the creative vehicle of the 30 second spot and how one must write and edit for that short window. It is a haiku poem compared to long-form programs or films, and requires a certain art to do well, especially on a limited budget.

I've also re-energized my life-long involvement in music, which has been particularly rewarding over the last few years. I've been honored to win several international awards for my long-form music compositions/performances (see my music page for details and samples).
As a recording artist, I have two albums out now: "Cave of the Jaguar" and the newly released "Songs of Day, Songs of Night". My albums are available worldwide on iTunes and other digital download sites, and directly from CDBaby.com. I am represented by ASCAP.

In other areas, I have a serious interest in the history of human religion and spirituality, having written a book on New Testament interpretation and authoring various websites on religious, philosophical, and spiritual topics. More recently, I have been seriously studying and working in the area of traditional shamanism. I recently returned from a trip to the Peruvian Amazon to work with indigenous tribal shamans and experience their powerful plant medicines and ceremonies. This has been a life-changing experience, leading to the creation of my new studios, CrewsCreative.
